New golf courses afford the designer the ultimate freedom of expression, but they also require the ultimate in a diversified team of professionals – scientists, engineers, environmental specialists, building architects, attorneys, financial planners, politicians – to ensure the transition of vision to reality.
Planning of these facilities, particularly when mixed with real estate development, places a premium on effective communication with other disciplines via conventional methods of detailed maps and plans under rigid requirements. Some designers pass their spontaneous, ill-defined sketches on the back of a cocktail napkin as “plans”, citing, in defense, that the artistic nature of the endeavor requires such liberation. Admittedly, such an approach can work, given a sufficiently skilled contractor who can decipher the architects arm waving, and a client who delights in receiving change orders.
However, Hurdzan Golf Design understands that the greater detail of plans, the greater the efficiency of time and effort, and hence the greater the bottom-line savings passed to the client. Our work has included all levels of government interaction, as well as mega- corporations, home builders and resort operators. Our portfolio confirms our ability to produce visually stunning, highly regarded golf courses, but what it doesn’t confirm is what we are most proud of – and what distinguishes us from our competition. It’s that those courses were produced not with a blank check by the client so as to allow us to claim “in budget,” but rather within defined financial and temporal parameters imposed by the client at the beginning. This is why we say our greatest sales pitch is only a phone call away, that is, the phone numbers of those financially astute clients who trusted Hurdzan Golf Design.
